After starting the fishing tourney, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players will have three minutes to catch as many fish as possible. When that’s done, they will then be able to turn in their points for special prizes. Players can continuously participate in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons fishing tourney throughout the day, though each time they enter after their initial attempt will cost a whopping 500 bells. Considering this, players will want to prepare by crafting fish bait and fishing rods.

The way the Animal Crossing: New Horizons fishing tourney works is that players will get a certain number of points depending on how many fish they catch. One fish is one point, two fish is two points, and then once players catch three fish, they got two more points than the number of fish they have. So three Animal Crossing: New Horizons fish is worth five points, four fish are worth six points, and so on, with 10 fish worth 12 points. Most of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons fishing tourney rewards that players can get cost 10 points apiece, so that will be at least 140 points necessary to get everything.

Additionally, players will also unlock fishing tourney trophies in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by participating in the day’s events. Earning 100 total points will unlock a Bronze Fish Trophy, whereas 200 total points unlocks a Silver Fish Trophy. Players will have to amass a whopping 300 points if they want the highest prize, which is a Gold Fish Trophy. Those that fail to do so can try again in future Animal Crossing: New Horizons fishing tourney events.

There will definitely be more Animal Crossing: New Horizons fishing tourney events, and likely some bug catching tourneys with Flick as well. There are some even bigger events planned beyond that to keep in mind, too.

Later this month, the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Earth Day event will go live. Specific details are unavailable at the time of this writing, but Nintendo should have more to share sooner rather than later.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
